INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 11, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — CareSource, a leading regional nonprofit health plan, announces that Wheeler Mission Ministries is the latest recipient of the CareSource People’s Choice Grant award. The nonprofit organization was selected by employees of CareSource to receive a $10,000 grant, which will be used for technology at the Wheeler Mission Center for Women & Children, which serves homeless women and children in the community.
Each quarter, CareSource contributes $10,000 to one non-profit organization chosen by an employee vote. The theme for this quarter was Housing and Neighborhood Development. CareSource employees chose between four nonprofit organizations nominated for providing safe shelter, housing for unique populations, or for working with neighborhoods undergoing transformation.
“This award represents the strong commitment that our employees feel toward making a difference in the communities we serve,” said Steve Smitherman, Executive Director of CareSource in Indiana. “This award is especially meaningful to the CareSource employees based here in Indiana. We volunteer every month at Wheeler Mission and believe its mission closely aligns with our own as a non-profit serving the community.”
The CareSource People’s Choice award began five years ago to give employees a voice in the grant selection process. More than 40 grants have been distributed to non-profit organizations nominated and chosen by employees.
“The gift from CareSource supports our efforts to provide superior care to the vulnerable women and children we serve by facilitating both internal and external communication and by providing quality programmatic materials,” said Colleen Gored, Director Women’s Services at Wheeler Mission. “We are exceedingly grateful.”
CareSource continues to invest in the state of Indiana and expand its commitment to offering Hoosiers access to quality health care coverage. Recently it was announced that CareSource was the only new health plan selected by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration to administer health care services for those who enroll in the Health Indiana Plan and Hoosier Healthwise programs, beginning January 2017. CareSource also offers Hoosiers plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace and Medicare Advantage coverage.
