Sabey Data Centers Outlines Community Commitments

Posted on: August 29, 2026 By: Real Estate News

Proposed Decatur Township campus commitments include $5 million for roads specifically in Decatur Township, almost $25 million for brand new aquatic center in Decatur Township, and high-paying jobs

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 27, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Sabey Data Centers, a premier designer, builder and operator of multi-tenant data centers, recently outlined the investment, employment and community benefits associated with its proposed data center campus in Decatur Township.

Key facts about the proposed campus include:

  • A roughly 130-acre site at 6400 Kentucky Avenue with two data center buildings totaling approximately one million square feet, along with generous setbacks and landscaping.
  • A new electrical substation and transmission infrastructure, with Sabey paying 100% of allocated costs so the project creates no additional costs for local ratepayers.
  • Closed-loop cooling that recirculates rather than consumes water, enforceable noise limits at the property line, full-cutoff exterior lighting, and backup generators used only during outages and brief scheduled tests.
  • $4.25 billion in projected taxable capital investment, including approximately $2.1 billion in real property improvements, $401.8 million in personal property and infrastructure, and $1.75 billion in tenant IT equipment.
  • Construction expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027, with phased occupancy expected from the fourth quarter of 2029 through 2035.
  • An estimated ranking as Marion County’s ninth-highest taxpayer during the abatement period and second-highest taxpayer after the abatement ends.
  • $21.9 million in projected tax contributions to Decatur Township public schools during the abatement period and $221 million over 30 years.
  • $2.2 million in projected tax payments to the Marion County Library during the abatement period and $22 million over 30 years.
  • Funding for community improvements includes $5 million for updated roads and $25 million for a new aquatic center in Decatur Township.

At full employment, the project is projected to create and maintain 75 full-time permanent positions. The positions would carry an average annual wage of at least $104,000 or 125 percent of Marion County’s average annual wage, whichever is higher at the time of job creation. Sabey also plans to use local union labor to construct and maintain the project and has executed an agreement with the local unions to bring Hoosiers to this large jobsite.

“Indianapolis is a strategic addition to Sabey’s national platform, with the infrastructure, skilled workforce and business environment needed to support a long-term investment of this scale,” said Clete Casper, Director of Real Estate at Sabey Data Centers. “We are approaching this project not only as a developer and operator, but as a future neighbor with a responsibility to invest in the community alongside our facilities.”

“We appreciated the opportunity to meet with the Metropolitan Development Commission and discuss the project directly,” said Tim Mirick, President of Sabey Data Centers. “Our plan pairs secure, reliable digital infrastructure with high-wage employment, local union construction and meaningful investments in roads and recreation that can benefit Decatur Township for years to come.”

Indianapolis would fill a critical Midwest market within Sabey’s national platform. The region’s pro-business environment, robust utility infrastructure, appropriately zoned land and skilled workforce were key factors in Sabey’s decision to pursue the site.
